ME Awareness 2004

I believe it is fair to say that ME Awareness was a great success this year for our group with the introduction of the Severely Affected Analysis Report, Colour Poster, Key Symptoms Tables etc. We sent out approximately 6,000 packs throughout the UK and have had a lot of positive feedback from this.

Lockerbie ME/CFS/FMS Conference

We also gave a presentation at a conference in Lockerbie based on the Report. This was organised by Dumfries & Galloway ME Network. This was a great experience and feedback from the audience was extremely positive.

PACE/FINE Research

You will see on page 20 under the Newsletter Theme Section, some comments concerning the PACE/FINE research trials. As some of you will know, I have serious concerns about this so-called research. AfME seems to think it is okay, but my concerns are that it relies too heavily on psychiatric treatments and outcomes and, in the long run, I feel this will only strengthen the entrenchment of psychiatry and ultimately harm ME patients.

New Website

We have also re-designed and re-launched the website. It is hoped that we will gradually introduce new interactive services and information via the site. Those who have a computer can see our site at www.25megroup.org and you can even sign the guest book. Happy surfing!J

25% Group Monthly Mini-draw

We have enclosed a feedback slip regarding a new fundraising idea. Fundraising, although always an important element, is especially crucial at present since our existing Lottery funding ends in November of this year. In order to maintain and continue to improve services for members, and to support me in actually running the Group on a daily basis, we have to raise substantial funds in order to keep the staff in employment with the Group after November. Please see and reply to the enclosed ‘Mini Draw Feedback Slip’ which outlines the proposals regarding this fundraising initiative and also includes details of how members can win the MONTHLY PRIZE DRAW!

Annual General Meeting

Since we now have charitable status, we are legally obligated to hold AGMs. The first AGM is set for 1st September by postal ballot. Obviously the AGM has to take this form because of the nature of the Group and the problems relating to members physically travelling to an AGM. Please see page 2 for further details.

Thanks to all those who have helped to support the group over the last 6 months. Your input is greatly appreciated as always.
